Geranium Lady Series written by Barbara Johnson and illustrated by Victoria Ponikvar Frazier is faith on the fun side. My kids enjoyed Super-Scrumptious Jelly Donuts Sprinkled with Hugs and The Upside-Down Frown and Splashes of Joy. The series also includes The Pepperoni Parade and the Power of Prayer and The Tasty Taffy Tale and Super-Stretching the Truth.

The stories are designed for children aged four to seven. They feature the Geranium Lady who welcomes children from her neighborhood with hugs, humor, advice, and lots of yummy treats. The pictures are bright and fun. Each book encourages virtuous behavior, backed up by a Bible verse.

In The Upside-Down Frown and Splashes of Joy (Thomas Nelson, Inc.,  1998), the Geranium Lady and her young friend, Joy, decide to brighten up their neighbor’s lives by surprise visits and gifts of chocolate chip cookies, geraniums, and shiny marbles of many colors. They watch the neighbors’ frowns turn upside down. The verse at the end of this story is, “Be full of the joy of the Lord.” Philippians 3:1.

Barbara Johnson was a Christian humorist and speaker for “Women of Faith.” Her upbeat look at life inspired many women and brightened the lives of children.
