God Gave Us the World is written by Lisa Tawn Bergren, illustrated by Laura J. Bryant and published by Waterbrook Press in 2010.

Bergren describes God’s beautiful world through the eyes of a mama polar bear and her cub as they visit a museum. We meet the panda bear in China, the sloth bear dangling from a tree in India and the grizzly bear in America. Little Cub groans at the thought of eating bamboo or bugs and she wonders why the other bears are so different. Her mama explains that God is amazing and He has given each its own special place.

Little Cub’s questions are delightful and reveal a quiet kind relationship between Mama Bear and her cub. Profound truths are cuddled in quiet conversations that both a child and an adult reader will enjoy. The illustrations are realistic with a few imaginative touches such as Mama Bear wearing a scarf.

The author handles how old the earth is by simply comparing it to many great, great, great grandparents. My favorite response of Mama Bear is when she talks of home being what we love and that it is God’s special place for us.

This is definitely a cuddle-close book with truths spelled with a capital “T”. Two others in this series are God Gave Us You and God Gave Us Heaven.
